Cambodia Urges Thailand to Halt Accusations and Engage in Good-Faith Dialogue on Ceasefire

PHNOM PENH — During a press conference at 4:00 p.m. on August 2, 2025, Chum Sounry, spokesperson for Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, called on Thailand to cease its daily accusations against Cambodia and to engage sincerely in dialogue within the framework of the ceasefire agreement.

He noted that recent statements from the Thai side, including those from Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, have repeatedly accused Cambodia, prompting Cambodian officials to respond and clarify the facts daily.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia demands that the Thai side, including its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stop making unfounded accusations and engage in good-faith dialogue under the ceasefire agreement,” Chum Sounry said. “Cambodia remains fully committed to implementing the ceasefire in good faith.”

The spokesperson rejected Thailand’s continued claims that Cambodia misinterpreted events related to recent clashes along the border and the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.

Cambodia reaffirmed its full commitment to the ceasefire accord reached during the special meeting in Malaysia on July 28, 2025, and stressed its determination to implement the agreement with restraint and in accordance with its provisions.

At the same time, Chum Sounry strongly rejected Thailand’s baseless allegations of ceasefire violations by Cambodia. He called for an independent ASEAN observation mission to conduct a credible assessment of the situation on both sides of the border, ensuring transparency and the validity of the ceasefire.

The Ministry also dismissed Thai accusations that Cambodian forces attacked civilians, stating that Cambodian troops strictly comply with international humanitarian law to protect civilian lives. Cambodia called for a thorough, ASEAN-supervised investigation rather than unilateral accusations that mislead public opinion.

Emphasizing Cambodia’s commitment to international law and regional stability, the Ministry reaffirmed its adherence to the ASEAN Charter, the United Nations Charter, and the ceasefire agreement. It expressed hope that the upcoming General Boundary Commission (GBC) meeting will help reduce tensions.

In closing, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Cambodia’s unwavering dedication to peace, truth, and international cooperation.
